Street party ushers in 2019

Hundreds of locals and foreigners alike converged on the streets of Victoria on New Year's Eve to usher in 2019 in a street party filled with traditional and local music which promised fun-for-all.

Renowned local singers including Joseph Sinon, John Wirtz, Stella Nibourette, Saturn band as well as Jahrimba took to the stage set up at the National Library to belt out hits for the large crowd gathered on Francis Rachel Street throughout the evening.

Along the streets, locals and foreigners alike mingled in high spirits and danced along to the rhythmic tracks played by the band of entertainers as they visited the various food and drinks stalls placed along the road.

As midnight approached, organisers of the event initiated the countdown and the massive crowd quickly fell in before they took to wishing fellow party-goers a happy new year.

Organiser of the street party, Basil Bouchereau, expressed that he is extremely satisfied with the event and the turnout.

Everything went well and the event was a success. The crowd had a good time, he said.

Mr Bouchereau added that he was especially pleased that they were able to secure Stella Nibourette to sing her numerous Christmas and New Year hits for the crowd and that he was surprised that party-goers had firecrackers which were lit just after midnight.

The street was closed to traffic earlier on Monday afternoon to allow organisers to finalise preparations for the event.

Seychelles NATION spoke to several party-goers who said they enjoyed the party especially the performances.

Karen Loze, 31, says she wishes for good health and prosperity in 2019.

I hope the new year brings good things for all my friends, family and for all Seychellois. A new chapter! she said.

The street party is organised annually in Victoria and is an event not to be missed by many.
