Winsel Pothin is the new captain ad interim of the Anse Aux Pins-based Seychelles Golf Club, replacing Vishal Sewraj, becoming the second female golfer to occupy the post after Margaret Pragassen.
Pothin, also known as Sly, was unanimously voted into office and will hold the post until the club’s election in May, or June this year.
Her new appointment was announced on Sunday during the award presentation for this year’s Captain v President competition held over the weekend.
It was the Captain team who won the ritual competition where members are split into two teams to battle it out over two days. Team Captain returned to winning ways after losing for three consecutive years against the Presidents.
On Saturday they played in pairs, while on Sunday the competition was played on a single basis.
The Captain team were leading 7-3 after the first day of the competition on Saturday, before increasing the lead to 19.5-12.5 on Sunday to win the tournament.
Adrian Andrade was awarded the order of merit for men, while Pothin received the same award for ladies.
Reshab Sewraj received the order of merit for most improved golfer.
