Danny Faure candidate for next presidential election in Seychelles

Seychelles President Danny Faure has ended months of speculation by announcing he will run for the next presidential election.

He made this statement in a televised speech, announcing his intention to hold a referendum on the right to vote of Seychellois living abroad.

"Tonight, I introduce myself as your servant with great humility to inform the people of Seychelles, that I am a candidate for the next presidential election," said President Faure.

The next presidential election in Seychelles will take place before the end of the year 2020, but already, Wavel Ramkalawan , announced his desire to submit his candidacy to represent his party Linyon Demokratik Seselwa.

Last week Patrick Pillay de Lalyans Seselwa also announced his participation.

Danny Faure who succeeded President James Michel who resigned in October 216 will participate in his first presidential election.

In the presidential election of 2015, the country had for the first time a second round in a presidential election, and in the second round President James Michel won the election with a minimal lead of 193 votes.

"Soon I will ask my party, which I have been a member for 39 years to support my candidacy," said Faure.

The validation of President Faure's candidacy by the United Seychelles party should take place in July when the party should elect a new executive committee.

The question that will then be asked will be who will be the vice-president who will be chosen.
